My reviews

I'm A Gay Wizard - This book was fantastic! A story about Johnny who is gay and his best friend Alison who, is trans. They deal with a lot of school and really horrible bullies. One day Alison finds a spell book and they plan to use it but instead, it causes an earthquake and before they know it they are kidnapped. So much happens in this book and I just didn't want it to end. Has fantastic representation and written by an own voice author. This is a book for all ages and one I can't recommend enough. I really enjoyed the story, the characters and wizadry. It tackles a lot of topics and I think the author did a fantastic job.

Trapeze - I just adored this book. As soon as I read about it I knew I had to read it and I read it in a few hours but, I just didn't want it to end. In this book we follow Corey and she is a travelling trapeze artist. She loves what she does but one night tragedy strikes and the home she has known for years has turned to ash. Set in a small town, Corey is about to travel a different path than she wanted. To know her estranged mother and after meeting cute Luke, possibly finding love? This book was beautifully written and I really enjoyed following Corey's journey. This book does touch on abuse but, the author did a fantastic job with this subject. Another book that was tackling a lot of topics and a story about a girl who is now in a life she has no idea to deal with and how she comes to terms with what her life is now.

What Happened That Night - Mysteries are my favourite and wow is this one up there with my top 5. In this book we follow Clara and her sister Emily is on trail for the murder of a family friend, Griffin who, Clara has always been infatuated with. I love that this book went between the past and present. It really adds more mystery to the book, finding out more about these characters and what really happened that night. This book was really intriguing. I needed to know what happened, who was involved and just couldn't put it down. The author did a fantastic job with the mystery that surrounded this book and the intensity off it. Definitely a top read for this year!

To find out more about each book and where you can buy them click here! (Also, if you're looking to gift some books this Christmas these make great presents!) Congrats to all the authors, Penguin and Wattpad on this wonderful partnership on publishing these books and I cannot wait to get to the others!

Picture
This is one I've seen all over social media and I cannot wait for it to be out to pick it up!

Sixteen-year-old Eva is a princess, born with the magick of blood and marrow--a dark and terrible magick that hasn't been seen for generations in the vibrant but fractured country of Myre. Its last known practitioner was Queen Raina, who toppled the native khimaer royalty and massacred thousands, including her own sister, eight generations ago, thus beginning the Rival Heir tradition. Living in Raina's long and dark shadow, Eva must now face her older sister, Isa, in a battle to the death if she hopes to ascend to the Ivory Throne--because in the Queendom of Myre only the strongest, most ruthless rulers survive. When Eva is attacked by an assassin just weeks before the battle with her sister, she discovers there is more to the attempt on her life than meets the eye--and it isn't just her sister who wants to see her dead. As tensions escalate, Eva is forced to turn to a fey instructor of mythic proportions and a mysterious and handsome khimaer prince for help in growing her magick into something to fear. Because despite the love she still has for her sister, Eva will have to choose: Isa's death or her own.

Picture
Again, another one I've seen all over social media and heard nothing but amazing things about.

After the War of Kinds ravaged the kingdom of Rabu, the Automae, designed to be the playthings of royals, usurped their owners' estates and bent the human race to their will. Now Ayla, a human servant rising in the ranks at the House of the Sovereign, dreams of avenging her family's death...by killing the sovereign's daughter, Lady Crier. Crier was Made to be beautiful, flawless, and to carry on her father's legacy. But that was before her betrothal to the enigmatic Scyre Kinok, before she discovered her father isn't the benevolent king she once admired, and most importantly, before she met Ayla.
Now, with growing human unrest across the land, pressures from a foreign queen, and an evil new leader on the rise, Crier and Ayla find there may be only one path to love: war.

Picture
This one just sounds absolutely brilliant.

EVERY STORY OPENS A DOOR
In a sprawling mansion filled with peculiar treasures, January Scaller is a curiosity herself. As the ward of the wealthy Mr. Locke, she feels little different from the artifacts that decorate the halls: carefully maintained, largely ignored and utterly out of place. But her quiet existence is shattered when she stumbles across a strange book. A book that carries the scent of other worlds and tells a tale of secret doors, of love, adventure and danger. Each page reveals more impossible truths about the world, and January discovers a story increasingly entwined with her own.

Picture
I loved the first 2 and I'm ashamed to say I haven't even had time to pick this one up but I need to asap.

Mia Corvere, gladiatii, escaped slave and infamous assassin, is on the run.
After the greatest games in Godsgrave’s history ended with the most audacious murders in the history of the Itreyan Republic, Mia finds herself pursued by Blades of the Red Church and soldiers of the Luminatii legion. She may never escape the City of Bridges and Bones alive.
Her mentor Mercurio is now in the clutches of her enemies. Her own family wishes her dead. And her nemesis, Consul Julius Scaeva, stands but a breath from total dominance over the Republic.
But beneath the city, a dark secret awaits. Together with her lover Ashlinn, brother Jonnen and a mysterious benefactor returned from beyond the veil of death, she must undertake a perilous journey across the Republic, seeking the final answer to the riddle of her life. Truedark approaches.
Night is falling on the Republic for perhaps the final time.

Aderyn's ancestral bird is a swan. But she has not transformed for years, not since witnessing the death of her mother - ripped apart by hawks that have supposedly been extinct since the long-ago War of the Raptors. With the benevolent shelter of her mother and her father now lost, Aderyn is at the mercy of her brutal uncle, the King, and his royal court. Driven by revenge and love, she must venture into the malevolent heart of the Citadel in order to seek the truth about the attack that so nearly destroyed her, to fight for the only home she has ever known and for the land she has vowed to protect. Written in rich detail and evocative language, this is the start of an irresistible, soaring duology about courage, broken loyalties and fighting for your place in the world.

The Silence by Susan Allott

30 years ago, in the suffocating heat of summer 1967, the Greens’ next-door neighbour Mandy disappeared. At the time, it was thought she had gone to start a new life; but now Mandy’s family is trying to reconnect, and there is no trace of her. Isla’s father Joe was allegedly the last person to see her alive, and now he’s under suspicion of murder.
Reluctantly, Isla goes back to Australia for the first time in a decade. The return to Sydney will plunge her deep into the past, to a quiet street by the sea where two couples live side by side. Isla’s parents, Louisa and Joe, have recently emigrated from England ― a move that has left Louisa miserably homesick while Joe embraces this new life. Next door, Steve and Mandy are equally troubled. Mandy doesn’t want a baby, even though Steve ― a cop trying to hold it together under the pressures of the job ― is desperate to become a father.   The more Isla asks about the past, the more she learns: about both young couples and the secrets each marriage bore. Could her father be capable of doing something terrible? How much does her mother know? And is there another secret in this community, one which goes deeper into Australia’s colonial past, which has held them in a conspiracy of silence?

Caught in the desire to discover her identity and find out why she has feathers fluttering down her back like golden thistledown, she leaves everything she has ever known and goes in search of the father she has never met. This hunt leads her to the City of Murmurs, a place of mermaids and mystery, where jars of swirling mist are carried through the streets by the broken-hearted. It is here that she learns about love, identity and how to accept being that little bit different.

Especially the woods surrounding the town of Fir Haven. Some say these woods are magical. Haunted, even.
Rumored to be a witch, only Nora Walker knows the truth. She and the Walker women before her have always shared a special connection with the woods. And it's this special connection that leads Nora to Oliver Huntsman--the same boy who disappeared from the Camp for Wayward Boys weeks ago--and in the middle of the worst snowstorm in years. He should be dead, but here he is alive, and left in the woods with no memory of the time he'd been missing.
But Nora can feel an uneasy shift in the woods at Oliver's presence. And it's not too long after that Nora realizes she has no choice but to unearth the truth behind how the boy she has come to care so deeply about survived his time in the forest, and what led him there in the first place. What Nora doesn't know, though, is that Oliver has secrets of his own--secrets he'll do anything to keep buried, because as it turns out, he wasn't the only one to have gone missing on that fateful night all those weeks ago.

If you don't follow me on Twitter I am a HUGE Taylor Swift fan and have been non-stop listening to Lover as it is just wonderful.
Rules:
1. Give credit to the creator -  whatvickyread
2. Tag 5 Friends
3. HAVE FUN!

I Forgot That You Existed – A book on your TBR that you’d completely forgotten about

Wow this was a hard one but I decided to go with one that is on my netgalley shelf as I tend to forget that I've requested books on that sometimes so The Furies by Katie Lowe.

Cruel Summer – A Perfect Summer Read

I recently read Call It What You Want by Brigid Kemmerer which is a cute romance that I can't recommend enough and it also has the same title as a Tay song ;)

Lover – Your Favourite Book/Series

I love Harry Potter but, my favourite book series is The Chronicles of Ixia by Maria V. Snyder.

The Man – An Amazing Female Character

Recently finished Slay by Brittney Morris and the main character Kiera is amazing.

The Archer – A book from your childhood because you never grew up

Anything by Jaqueline Wilson! I still have my big collection of her books from when I was a kid.

I Think He Knows – A book everyone knows you love!

Either Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder or A Curse so Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer are two books I can't shut up about.

Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince – A book that makes you so sad, you could paint the town blue

I am the type of person who tends to avoid really sad books but I always remember having a little cry to is History is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera.

Paper Rings – Your favourite OTP

Valek and Yelena from Poison Study are my all time fave and I want to say a couple from American Royals but, not say who as this is a new book and everyone needs to find out for themselves!

Cornelia Street – A book that lived up to the hype

It is so disappointing when you read a book because of the hype and sometimes they never live up to your exceptions but for me Nevernight by Jay Kristoff really lived up to the hype for me.

Death by a Thousand Cuts – A book that saying goodbye to is death by a thousand cuts, so you just have to re-read it again

Harry Potter duh.

London Boy – A book based in London

This one has me stumped as I can't for the life of me think of a book set in London. Maybe A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab perhaps!

Soon You’ll Get Better – A book that brightens up your sky

Anything by Morgan Matson. Her books always brighten up my day.

False God – A book that you could reread over again because it still does it for you, babe

To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo!

You Need to Calm Down – An LGBTQ+ book you’d GLAADly recommend

The PROUD anthology is fantastic.

Afterglow – It’s Not the Book, It’s Me (A book that wasn’t for you)

Probably would get shunned for this but for me I couldn't get into The Handmaid's Tale. *hides*

ME! – A Character You Relate To

Amber from How Hard Can Love Be? by Holly Bourne! She is tall, awkward and just looking for love and reminded me so much of me when I was younger.

It’s Nice to Have a Friend – A Character You’d Love to be Friends With

Owen from Call it What You Want by Brigid Kemmerer! He is adorable, lovely and I just love him.

Daylight – A book that you weren’t sure of at first but turned out to be amazing!

A Good Girl's Guide To Murder by Holly Jackson. I've read quite a few YA thrillers and some times they can seem to have the same sort of plot but, this one was fantastic and full of twists!

Bonus: Favourite Taylor Swift Album

For me it's 1989!

An enthralling debut perfect for fans of Children of Blood and Bone set in a North African-inspired fantasy world where two sisters must fight to the death to win the crown.Sixteen-year-old Eva is a princess, born with the magick of blood and marrow--a dark and terrible magick that hasn't been seen for generations in the vibrant but fractured country of Myre. A River of Royal Blood is an enthralling debut set in a lush North African inspired fantasy world that subtly but powerfully challenges our notions of power, history, and identity.
