Today, Zoella A.K.A Zoe Sugg announced her new book club with WHSmith. I am really excited to get my hands on those books she chose, which you can check out here, and I love the different covers they do for it as it just feels more like a book club.
It got me thinking though, if I had the opportunity to do my own book club, what books would I choose? WELL, I thought it over and these are the books I came up with. Not all of the authors are UKYA and there is a little bit of everything in this list. So, check them out and let me know what books you would choose if you could have your own book club!
Okay so, if you haven't read Uprooted yet you need too. One of my favourite fantasy books. It is just so wonderful and I was so sad with it being only a standalone but, I have to say I think everyone would love this book if you haven't read it already.
Agnieszka loves her village, set deep in a peaceful valley. But the nearby enchanted forest casts a shadow over her home. Many have been lost to the Wood and none return unchanged. The villagers depend on an ageless wizard, the Dragon, to protect them from the forest's dark magic. However, his help comes at a terrible price. One young village woman must serve him for ten years, leaving all they value behind. Agnieszka fears her dearest friend Kasia will be picked at the next choosing, for she's everything Agnieszka is not - beautiful, graceful and brave. Yet when the Dragon comes, it's not Kasia he takes.
A book I read at the start of the year. It is such a powerful read with an important message. It has its funny moments but oh so heartbreaking.
Sixteen-year-old Starr lives in two worlds: the poor neighbourhood where she was born and raised and her posh high school in the suburbs. The uneasy balance between them is shattered when Starr is the only witness to the fatal shooting of her unarmed best friend, Khalil, by a police officer. Now what Starr says could destroy her community. It could also get her killed. Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, this is a powerful and gripping YA novel about one girl's struggle for justice.
A re-telling of Cinderella where Cinderella is a geek and attends a convention instead of a ball. It is so cute and geeky and I love it.
Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic sci-fi series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball, and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck (and her dad s old costume), Elle s determined to win unless her stepsisters get there first. Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons before he was famous. Now they re nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he s ever wanted, but Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise. But when she disappears at midnight, will he ever be able to find her again?
Okay, so technically this book isn't out yet and I haven't read it either BUT, I just know this book is going to have some really important topics in it and just be a big hit that I had to put it in my list.
Featuring top Young Adult authors and introducing a host of exciting new voices, this anthology of stories and poetry from BAME writers on the theme of change is a long-overdue addition to the YA scene. Not cool enough, not clever enough, not street enough for anyone to notice me. I was the kid people looked straight through. NOT ANY MORE. NOT SINCE MR ORANGE. Sixteen-year-old Marlon has made his mum a promise - he'll never follow his big brother, Andre, down the wrong path. So far, it's been easy, but when a date ends in tragedy, Marlon finds himself hunted. They're after the mysterious Mr Orange, and they're going to use Marlon to get to him. Marlon's out of choices - can he become the person he never wanted to be, to protect everyone he loves?
A book I read last year and just fell in love with. It is so wonderful and so sad that I just still think about this book and recommend it to this day.
Hattie's summer isn't going as planned. Her two best friends have abandoned her: Reuben has run off to Europe to 'find himself' and Kat is in Edinburgh with her new girlfriend. Meanwhile Hattie is stuck babysitting her twin siblings and dealing with endless drama around her mum's wedding. Oh, and she's also just discovered that she's pregnant with Reuben's baby...Then Gloria, Hattie's great-aunt who no one even knew existed, comes crashing into her life. Gloria's fiercely independent, rather too fond of a gin sling and is in the early stages of dementia. Together the two of them set out on a road trip of self-discovery - Gloria to finally confront the secrets of her past before they are erased from her memory forever and Hattie to face the hard choices that will determine her future...
THE perfect summer read. I love this book so much. Filled with travel, boys, friendship, love, heartache and so much more.
Boys, best friends and a summer spent backpacking around Europe...What could possibly go wrong? The perfect holiday read from bestselling YA author, Sarah Mlynowski. When they touch down in London, Leela Instagrams their every move in the hope Matt will come and find them...Which he does, along with the most gorgeous guy Sydney has ever seen. Will Sydney's summer fling last the distance? And what will happen when they all head home?
This book is just so magical and WOW. I adore this book and how it just grips you from the very first page. So beautifully written.
'Frost-demons have no interest in mortal girls wed to mortal men. In the stories, they only come for the wild maiden.' In a village at the edge of the wilderness of northern Russia, where the winds blow cold and the snow falls many months of the year, an elderly servant tells stories of sorcery, folklore and the Winter King to the children of the family, tales of old magic frowned upon by the church. But for the young, wild Vasya these are far more than just stories. She alone can see the house spirits that guard her home, and sense the growing forces of dark magic in the woods...
The cutest story ever. I love Dimple and Rishi and reading about their journey and their lives.
Meet Dimple. Her main aim in life is to escape her traditional parents, get to university and begin her plan for tech world domination.Meet Rishi. He's rich, good-looking and a hopeless romantic. His parents think Dimple is the perfect match for him, but she's got other plans...Dimple and Rishi may think they have each other figured out. But when opposites clash, love works even harder to prove itself in the most unexpected ways. As joyfully refreshing as Rainbow Rowell, Jenny Han and Nicola Yoon, When Dimple Met Rishi is a frothy, funny contemporary romance told from the dual perspectives of two Indian American protagonists. While Dimple is fighting her family traditions, Rishi couldn't be happier to follow in the footsteps of his parents - could sparks fly between this odd couple, or is this matchmaking attempt doomed to fail?
This book is CRAZY good. It had me guessing until the very end and I still can't get over it.
