If you follow me on Twitter then you know that on Friday I went to a book event to meet two of my favourite authors - Rainbow Rowell & Leigh Bardugo.
I know, I still can't get over it either.
They decided to do a tour together in the UK which I am so happy about! Having these two beautiful authors coming over to the UK just made my day! My day started with me travelling to Manchester. I'm about 45 minutes away on the train so it wasn't too bad for me. I got to the Library around half 5 as I had to find it from the train station(thank god for google maps) and joined the queue with some of my blogger friends who where already there. Becca & Aggie - check their blogs out, just saying.
Then it was time to go in. We got a pretty good spot at the side sitting on the front row and had a good view of Leigh and Rainbow.
They started off telling us how they became friends, and I swear from the moment they stepped on stage they had everyone laughing. They where constantly ripping into each other and just having a really good time and within the first 10 minutes I had tears in my eyes.
We learnt how when Rainbow had written the draft for Carry On she was telling Leigh how one of the characters was called Baz.
Baz at the time was going to be the name of a very well known character from Six Of Crows and Leigh was questioning Rainbow, asking her did she really want to call the vampire Baz? But then Leigh changed Baz Brekker to Kaz Brekker.
I think my favourite line from Rainbow was when she said that Simon Snow, from Carry On, was like if Luke Skywalker and Harry Potter had a baby and Frodo raised him.
That is now how I see Simon's life.
Next we went on to the part where they read parts from each book. First it was Carry On and Rainbow was being Simon and Leigh was Baz. It was so good and these work so well together and they had me laughing a lot. Especially when it came up to a certain line and Rainbow was like 'This is my Bella Swan moment - I know what you are' and that just about killed me.
Then they read from Leigh's book Crooked Kingdom! Between Nina and Matthias, I haven't read Crooked Kingdom yet but the way they where portraying the characters just made me want to read it straight away! They where just so brilliant!
Also, can I say how amazingly dressed these women are? I want their clothes and style.
Next was questions from the audience and they're was quite a few but not too many as they had to get onto the signing. But, my favourite line from Leigh from that moment was when she said 'why couldn't they just shoot Voldemort? Muggle it up,'
Best, thing, ever!
I kind of jinxed myself at this moment. It was quarter to 8 and my train home wasn't till 9:55 so I thought I had loads of time and was able to get an earlier train home. But, they took groups up differently then I thought they would. The it was time for our row to get up and join the queue which wasn't so bad, It was about quarter to 9 at this point and I thought okay it will take me 15 minutes in each queue.
The queue went all the way around for Rainbow then you had to join another queue for Leigh. Which was a lot easier for people who only wanted to meet one author.
Then it got to 2o past 9. I was still in the queue for Rainbow, and it didn't help that the lights went out so that slowed things down. Luckily! I was able to jump the queue and meet Rainbow-who is absolutely amazing and so lovely and I just want to give her a big hug. She said she was admiring my hair from the stage and then I couldn't stop smiling.
You could get two books dedicated from each author and the rest, if you brought any, would just be signed. I was going to bring more to be signed but my bag was already heavy.
Then with 5 minutes before I wanted to leave I found my friend Katie in Leigh's queue near the front. She was actually getting the same train home as me so, she let me jump in with her so we could run to the train station together. Leigh is also lovely. Her hair is beautiful and she was just so wonderful.
Then, we ran to the train station and luckily got there in time, since the train was a few minutes late so, that worked in our favour.
I am never running again, I am a reader not a runner.
It was such a fantastic event and they did such a good job of organising it and the library where it was held was beautiful! Thank you to all that was involved in making it such a brilliant event.
I also got some bookish goodies! If you bought one book from each author at the stand when you got in you got either a t-shirt or a poster.
Of course, I chose the t-shirt as it is now my night time shirt and it is so comfortable! And I got a badge from Rainbows table and a card from Leighs. I liked how all the cards where facing down so you didn't know what character you where getting! I got Matthias!! Isn't the badge and card just so cool?!
