he gods are gone.
The people have forgotten them.
But sixteen-year-old Rachel Patel can't forget - the gods control her life, or more specifically, her love life.
Being a Hedoness, one of a strong group of women descended from Greek God Eros, makes true love impossible for Rachel. She wields the power of that magical golden arrow, and with it, the promise to take the will of any boy she kisses. But the last thing Rachel wants is to force someone to love her . . .
When seventeen-year-old Benjamin Blake's disappearance links back to the Hedonesses, Rachel's world collides with his, and her biggest fear becomes a terrifying reality. She's falling for him - a messy, magnetic, arrow-over-feet type of fall.
Rachel distances herself, struggling to resist the growing attraction, but when he gives up his dream to help her evade arrest, distance becomes an insurmountable task. With the police hot on their trail, Rachel soon realises there are darker forces hunting them - a group of mortals recruited by the gods who will stop at nothing to preserve the power of the Hedonesses - not to mention Eros himself, who is desperate to reverse the curse . . .

When I heard of the option to do character bios I knew right away I wanted to get my illustrator friend Kayla Rivera to sketch them. It’s always fun seeing other people’s interpretations of your characters, it reminds me that once the book is out in the world, it is no longer only mine. When I saw Kayla’s drawings, they looked so much like mug shots that I asked her to fully commit to that, besides, all three of these characters just so happened to have a stint in jail…
Picture
Name: Rachel Madhu Patel
Age: 16
DOB: November 09, 2001
Description: 5’6”, light brown skin, black hair pulled into ponytail, brown eyes. Has dusting of freckles over her nose. Wearing navy school uniform, white blouse, running shorts under skirt, wonder woman tee-shirt under blouse, black converse sneakers.
Items in possession at time of arrest: Black Samsung S7 (encrypted), Pack of hair elastics, Folded paper with doodles of the words “Warrior” and “Joan of Arc”, Satchel of tea
Most Likely Found: At school, running in the park, or at home watching TV and drinking tea with her ma.
Passions: Helping others, freedom of choice, family, making sure Marissa doesn’t turn people
Author’s Note: Rachel is quirky and stubborn – but in a good way – she always wants what’s best for those she cares for, often putting her own needs to the side. She isn’t afraid to challenge authority but respects no one like she does her ma. She was a really fun character to write as she challenges every other character to be their best self.

Picture
Name: Benjamin Joseph Blake
Age: 17
DOB: May 13, 2001
Description: 6’1”, tan skin, dark brown hair cut short, blue eyes. Wearing denim jacket, blue jeans, white v-neck, leather boots
Items in possession at time of arrest: Walkman, Nirvana CD, Punisher comic
Most Likely Found: Hanging out at the park, comic book stores, studying to pass the cadet entrance exam, fishing
Passions: justice, martial arts, eating
Author’s Note: Benjamin was hard to get to know, he even kept himself protected from me for the first few drafts. The best way to know him is through his actions. He may seem standoffish
and cold sometimes, but he’ll be the first to throw himself in harm’s way to save a friend. Besides, he isn’t really cold, he’s likely just assessing every aspect of the situation and trying to find the best solution for everyone.

Picture
Name: Marissa Olympia Bale
Age: 16
DOB: July 17, 2001
Description: 5’10” white, blonde, blue eyes. Wearing navy school uniform, white blouse, navy blue heels, gold purse
Items in possession at time of arrest: 24 karat Gold elite iPhone X (encrypted). Makeup: 3 x Lip stick, eyebrow pencil, eyebrow gel, eyeliner, mascara, powder, Perfume, Compact mirror, Pen x 2 and Pearl earrings
Most Likely Found: Shopping, at school, in her penthouse apartment
Passions: Shopping, school, her penthouse apartment
Author’s Note: Marissa was a fun character to write because she’s unpoetically a narcissist, but at the same time truly cares for Rachel – though she projects her own motivations on their friendship. It was interesting getting to explore the fine line between good and evil with her.

Thank you Rebecca for being on my blog today with these amazing character profiles and these wonderful drawings that brings these characters to life!

About the author

After graduating high-school, Rebecca Sky set out on a five-year, 24 Country exploration to find herself. She slept in a hammock in the Amazon Jungle, skinny-dipped off the West African Coast, ate balut and climbed the chocolate hills in the Philippines, and fell in love in Cuba (then again in Brazil, and a final time to a Rocker from Canada). Rebecca returned home to the West Coast captivated by the world and ready for another adventure.
So she did what every wanderer does when standing still--began writing. Her work has since garnered over 20 million reads on Wattpad, and she’s had the opportunity to partner with some really great brands. She was featured in The New York Times and The Boston Globe, (check out those articleshere). Her debut Arrowheart, book one in THE LOVE CURSE series will be published by Hodder Children a division of Hachette Book Group. Look for that in stores June 14th, 2018!
