Renata was only a child when she was kidnapped by the crown. As a memory thief, the rarest and most feared of the magical Moria, she was used to carry out the King's Wrath, a siege that resulted in the deaths of thousands of her own people.
Now Renata is one of the Whispers, a rebel spy working against the crown. When Dez, her commander - and the boy she's grown to love - is taken captive by the notorious Principe Dorado, Renata must return to the palace and complete his top-secret mission herself. Can she keep her cover, even as she burns for vengeance against the brutal, enigmatic prince? Her life and the fate of the Moria depend on it.
But returning to the palace stirs memories long locked away. As Renata grows more deeply embedded in the royal court, she uncovers a secret that could change the fate of the entire kingdom - and end the war that has cost her everything.

My review

~I was gifted a copy from the publishers - all opinions are my own~

I give it
- 5/5

My review - Well, isn't this one of the best books I've read this year.

This book was fantastic. I was gripped from the beginning and couldn't put it down. I had to know what was going to happen and more about these characters but, I had to take my time with this book. To gather all the information and just take in this world and the characters that Zoraida has created and I was just blown away by how much I adored this book.

It was brilliant.

In this book we follow Renata. She was kidnapped as a child and is also a memory thief, a Robari, one of the rarest Magical Moria. She is feared by many because of her past, a past that wasn't her decision and part of her past she can't remember. She wants to make things right, she wants to be forgiven for the things she has done, the things she has done that hurt a lot of her own people, the Magical Moria. Ren is now a spy, one of the Whispers. The kingdom is determined to destroy all Moria and Ren and the Whispers are trying to save the remaining people to get out before it's too late.

When one of the Whispers is kidnapped and taken to the palace by the notorious Prince. Ren must do what she can to save him. Returning to the castle won't be easy but, she will do anything it takes to save him. Will Ren be able to save him? Or will she get caught up in the secrets and politics of the castle and her own memories she thought she would never remember?

I adored this book. I love Ren so much. She is a fantastic character. She is dealing with a lot. Not only is she the reason people died, her people but, she is trying to make things right. She wants to help but sometimes people don't forgive as easy and she has to deal with a lot of cold shoulders and stares. Ren just wants to remember about her past. Why it is locked away in her memory and why she can't access the part of her life she needs to know about before she was kidnapped.

She is a main character that I loved reading about. You could feel her pain and how she beats herself up but, trying to recuse Dez from the Prince is something she is determined to do. Ren is just brilliant. Zoriada has created a character that I need to know more about and this book took me on a journey with Ren and the Whispers.

I love the world building and how interesting and intriguing all of the characters, especially all the magical Moria are. With the spies, twists and lies. This is a book that will leave you wanting more. ESPECIALLY after that ending! It had my heart racing towards the end and just left me needing more and I cannot wait for more.

This is a book that you need to get ASAP. It is fantastic, a mix of The Spanish Inquisition with magic! Full of amazing characters and suspense that will leave you wanting more!
