In late 1983, a letter arrives from Italy, containing secrets so unthinkable that it is hidden away, apparently forever. More than three decades later, it is found . . . by the last person who was ever supposed to see it.

When Allie opens an envelope in her grandmother’s house, it changes everything she knows about her family - and herself.

With the truth liable to hurt those she loves most, she hires a private detective to find out what happened to her late mother in the summer before Allie was born. Taking leave from her job as a research scientist, she is led to the sun-drenched shores of Lake Garda, accompanied by her best friend Ed.

But the secrets that emerge go far beyond anything they were expecting. Now, Allie must find the courage to confront her family’s tangled past and reshape her own future.

My review - How can you really know where you belong if you where never told the truth?

This book is fantastic. Catherine is one of my favourite authors and her books just keep getting better and better. I just adored this book and didn't put it down once. I was enthralled with the characters, the setting and the plot. It had me intrigued from the get go and I just loved it.

In this book we follow Allie and Ed, both escaping to Italy for different reasons. Allie, has found something out, something about her mother that might change everything she ever knew. She can't talk to anyone about it beside her best friend Ed. Ed is having martial problems. His feelings unsure. So, when Allie books to go to Italy to find out the truth he books along with her. They have been friends for years and on this trip they might find something that they weren't expecting at all.

This is a story that you won't expect. The plot was so interesting and different. I also really enjoyed that we got different perspectives throughout the book. I always love that about books as we get to learn more about each character and their thoughts.

One of my favourite things about this book was the location. I love that they went to Italy but, I also love that Liverpool played a part in this. I'm from Liverpool and I just liked that added bit of the book.

This is such a heartwarming book that has some twists and breaking moments you won't see coming. The characters are amazing and I really enjoyed following their story throughout.

A beautifully written story that you won't want to put down. A story about finding who you are and where you are going in life. About taking a break and trying to figure out your life and think about your past.

A fantastic new book from Catherine!
