When Harriet Westaway receives an unexpected letter telling her she’s inherited a substantial bequest from her Cornish grandmother, it seems like the answer to her prayers. She owes money to a loan shark and the threats are getting increasingly aggressive: she needs to get her hands on some cash fast.

There's just one problem - Hal's real grandparents died more than twenty years ago. The letter has been sent to the wrong person. But Hal knows that the cold-reading techniques she’s honed as a seaside fortune teller could help her con her way to getting the money. If anyone has the skills to turn up at a stranger's funeral and claim a bequest they’re not entitled to, it’s her.

Hal makes a choice that will change her life for ever. But once she embarks on her deception, there is no going back. She must keep going or risk losing everything, even her life…

- 4/5

My review - Possibly my favourite book from Ruth.

I am a huge fan of Ruth Ware. I think she is a fantastic writer and this book just blew me out of the water. It was wonderfully written, captivating and I was instantly transported into the story and I felt like I was part of the story. This book is dark, full of twists, it is about family and sibling rivalry. It is another gripping novel from Ruth and I think this is a book everyone needs to get. It is fantastic.

Hal Westaway is dealing with the death of her mother. Because of what has happened and the fact she had to take over her mothers job at a tarot  reading and cancel her plans to go to college, she has to think about money. With bills she needs to pay she borrows money but, it turns out to be a huge mistake a she starts to get pressured to pay it back and it includes a lot of threats.

With threats looming over her head she receives a letter, she is an heir to an inheritance from her grandmother, Mrs Westaway. But, Hal never knew she had a grandmother. She thinks the letter is a mistake but,  she is intrigued. Who was this woman? What is the inheritance? With the threats she has no choice but to head up to the estate for with Will hearing. Here, things start to get strange. She is about to find out about her inheritance and some people are not too happy about it. Some of the family are happy to meet her but, things can change in this house. Hal is not so sure she is ready for any of this.

I really loved this story. I love how the house really added to the creepy, atmospheric story. The characters are all so interesting and different. This story is creepy, will send shivers down your spine and you will feel like you are with Hal in this house. This house is full of deception. Everyone has secrets, full of twists and turns that will shock you!

Another brilliant novel from Ruth Ware!
