My review - One of my most anticipated reads of the year and it did not disappoint. Kiran is a fantastic author and I've really adored all of her previous books and was very excited to see she was writing her first YA novel and it was fantastic.
Her writing is beautiful and just flows so nicely with this book. It was gothic, dark and just oh so wonderful and the STORY! WOW! The characters, the relationships just, everything was brilliant and I could not put it down until I finished it. This has to be one of my favourite books of the year and Kiran has written something wonderful here and I cannot wait for more.
This is the story of the women behind Dracula and what a story it was. We follow twins Lil and Kizzy. Taken in the night to work as slaves in a kitchen. There we meet Mira and the girls form a bond but, as the days past they learn about a rumour about a Dragon who, accepts young girls as gifts. When one of the girls is taken to be presented to the Dragon the other must do what she can to survive and find her. She is brave and determined to do what she can to find her in this place.
So much happens in this book that you need to just jump in and get ready. The vampires take a bit of a back seat in this book and that is a good thing as it shows us the story of these women and their lives. What they go through and the hope and strength they have.
Kiran is a fantastic author and her writing is just so beautiful. Each page I was enthralled by the characters, language, setting and the story. Empowering each other in this gothic feminist read. It was brilliant and wonderful and a book I cannot recommend enough. For those who have read Dracula and those who haven't you aren't left questioning about these 3 mysterious 'sisters' we know so little about for long.
A brilliant YA debut from Kiran and I cannot wait to see what she writes next.
