ASOIAF Book 1 - A Game Of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
Summer span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun.
As Warden of the north, Lord Eddard Stark counts it a curse when King Robert bestows on him the office of the Hand. His honour weighs him down at court where a true man does what he will, not what he must ... and a dead enemy is a thing of beauty.
The old gods have no power in the south, Staqrk's family is split and there is treachery at court. Worse, the vengeance-mad heir of the deposed Dragon King has grown to maturity in exile in the Free Cities. He claims the Iron Throne.
I give it - 5/5
My review - I actually watched the show first before reading the books as my boyfriend got me them for Christmas last year so I thought I might as well give them a read.
I really loved A Game Of Thrones it was so interesting and so descriptive in the made up world that it felt real whilst I was reading it.
Of course reading the book I was picturing parts from the TV show but the book goes into so much more depth and history that it's way better then the show.
I really enjoy how each chapter is about a different character and what they're going through and it really keeps you up on what is going on with them all and what they're thinking.
Of course I have a favourite characters but most of them died in this book which I'm used to aha!
George has written I think one of the best books in a very long time. The way he came up with all the character names, places, description for each one is just amazing and you can tell he has such a fantastic imagination to come up with stuff like this and I love people like that and how they can make a world of their own.
If you've only watched the show or haven't I suggest reading the books. I'm nearly finished with the second one and it just keeps getting better and better and I'm hoping to finish them before the show starts again as they're just brilliant and so much better than the show.
