A TORCH AGAINST THE NIGHT takes readers into the heart of the Empire as Laia and Elias fight their way north to liberate Laia's brother from the horrors of Kauf Prison. Hunted by Empire soldiers, manipulated by the Commandant, and haunted by their pasts, Laia and Elias must outfox their enemies and confront the treacherousness of their own hearts. In the city of Serra, Helene Aquilla finds herself bound to the will of the Empire's twisted new leader, Marcus. When her loyalty is questioned, Helene finds herself taking on a mission to prove herself-a mission that might destroy her, instead.

I give it - 5/5 My review - THIS WAS THE PERFECT SEQUEL. I didn't think it would get better after An Ember In The Ashes but Sabaa has knocked it out of the park. This book killed me in all the good ways and it is defiantly one of my favourite books of 2016.
Sabaa is a fantastic writer. She writes in a way that when you read it you are captivated right from the beginning and you won't put it down-like what I did. I devoured this book within a day and I want to re-read these two books again because they are just brilliant and I am so happy she is releasing another two books in the series.
THAT ENDING HAS LEFT ME NEEDING MORE.
In ATATN we kick off right after the ending of AEITA following Elias and Laia, I won't say what happened in case you haven't read the first book yet but this book had my heart racing. I love that we get chapters from Elias and Laia and now, in this book we got chapters from Helene, Elias friend and now she has been appointed to find Elias and kill him. But, for Helene it isn't that simple. She loves Elias but her father has made some agreements and she knows she has to put her family first. She is torn between doing what is right and doing what she wants to do.
I really liked reading about Helene. We didn't know that much about her in AEITA but this book has shown her life a lot more and her emotions. She is a fantastic character, she has to become cold to be what they want her to be and she is just brilliant.
Elias and Laia are trying to find Laia's brother. But with people hunting them they have to move fast. They will meet friends along the way and also enemies. They will have to face the truth with what they know and what they are about to find out.
Elias has to deal with a lot in this book and I just wanted to hug him and tell him he will be okay.
This book is a fast paced book that will get your heart racing, your hands gripping the book and you'll feel like you're running with them. Full of laughs, sadness, romance, drama and a lot more packed into this book! We found out a few things in this book and I can't wait to read about it more in the next one.
Another fantastic book from Sabaa!
An Ember in the Ashes is the book everyone is talking about. Under the Martial Empire, defiance is met with death. When Laia's grandparents are brutally murdered and her brother arrested for treason by the empire, the only people she has left to turn to are the rebels. But in exchange for their help in saving her brother, they demand that Laia spy on the ruthless Commandant of Blackcliff, the Empire's greatest military academy. Should she fail it's more than her brother's freedom at risk ...Laia's very life is at stake. There, she meets Elias, the academy's finest soldier. But Elias wants only to be free of the tyranny he's being trained to enforce. He and Laia will soon realize that their destinies are intertwined - and that their choices will change the fate of the Empire itself.
