Auden has always felt like the odd one out. Since her parents' divorce she's shied away, studying lots and staying out of the party scene. But now Auden's realized there must be something more and, just like that, she changes everything. Moving to her dad's house opens up a whole new whole of beach parties, food fights - and simply having fun. As she gets to know herself - and a secretive boy with dark, brooding eyes - can Auden begin to let go and finally feel like she truly belongs?
My review - Can you believe this is the first book I have read from Sarah Dessen? I know right, how crazy. I always see people talk and rave about her books and I always wondered what I was missing out on. Then, I picked this one up the other day and just decided to see what they where like and I can honestly say, I loved it. I love a good summer romance book with drama and more and this book gave me that. I can't believe I have never picked up one of her books and now, I am so ready to buy all of them and just have a Sarah Dessen binge.
In this book we meet Auden. Her parents split and her new stepmother is about to have a baby. Auden grew up with two very smart parents. Her brother is the wild one but Auden does everything she is told. She is constantly studying and doesn't have many friends. Then, when the baby is born she is asked to come and stay with her father and stepmother for a little bit. Auden decides to go but, what she doesn't realise that everything is going to change.
She gets a job and meets new friends and a mysterious boy at night. He is hiding some secrets and hardly talks to anyone or hang out with any of them any more with what happened in his past but there is something about Auden that gets him talking. Can she get him to open up and get over his fear? Can he get Auden to open up and just be herself and do all the crazy things she should of done as a child? Or will the pressure of her parents come baring down on her and make her go back to her old ways?
I just love where this story went. Auden has a lot to live up too and she tries so hard to show that she can. She is determined for a great future but, has her childhood been taken away from her?
This is a story of finding who you are and letting yourself be yourself. Not letting anyone dictate your life. Finding friends and possible first love. A wonderful book of love, friendship and family drama.
I love this book and I cannot wait to get the rest of her books soon. I love a good cute romance that has some drama that just are fast-paced read that you can curl up with.
