Dream Wakers by Bec Dixon

Picture
An untold prophecy hides in the dreams of two strangers.
Outgrowing the fairytales of her grandfather, Emmy's explosive personality set her on a fast track for success in the eye of America's social standards, until her abusive marriage forced her to flee town.

Lillian sought a simple existence in the solace of England's rural countryside, wanting only to disappear into her herbalism books after the death of her mentor and the return of her childhood hauntings.

In slumber, their lives converge, forcing each woman to search for answers about the strangers they meet in dreaming. Answers that have been kept from them and the others for centuries. A strange prophecy will drag them in between the lines of the past to confront the formidable adversaries controlling their lives, and uncover their identity.

My review

I give it - 5/5

My review - I am amazed by this story that I now need the next one in the series! It was absolutely fantastic! Bec's style of writing really brought this story to life and made it into one of the best books I have read this year.

It was really different from anything I have read so far!

I really enjoyed how each chapter was about one of the main two characters, Lillian and Emmy, and how after a chapter about Lillian it would go straight back to the story about Emmy and it was very enjoyable.

I really enjoyed the description in this book. It was wonderful and such a breath of fresh air!

When I started reading this book I was determined to find out about their dreams and connection and at the end I was just so ready for the next book I might of squealed.

I will recommend this story to everyone! Everyone should read this story and love it as much as I did.

Well done to Bec for writing this brilliant story that I will probably re-read again this week!

Review

I give it - 5/5

Review - I can't even put into words how much I loved Puddling Jumping by Amber L. Johnson. It's about a reunited childhood friendship that blossoms into a love that is anything but conventional.

Lilly is a danger magnet and basically a thrill seeking psycho. The story starts with her at the young age of ten and she is asked to babysit nine-year-old Colton. Everyone thinks Colton Neely is special. But Lilly Evans just thinks he's fascinating. After their friendship is cut short due to a series of events caused by Lilly's accident prone nature, and they are forced to go their separate ways. They reunite years later, and Lilly discovers that there is something special about the boy she knew as a child, but she has no idea what it all means , or how deep his quirky nature runs.

The more Lilly learns about Colton, the deeper she falls. Their friendship grows into a romance, even as Colton does not express his love into words. But one decision made by him threatens to break down their bond and the world Lilly has tried hard to integrate into and she must figure out if their relationship can survive if they are apart.

This beautiful and heart warming story focuses on real life struggles that partners have to overcome when a bunch of obstacles are thrown into their path. I love that Amber based this in high school. The time for a person to fall in love doesn't have an age limit, and the struggles and heartache some relationships have to face doesn't just happen to adults. Love is hard work, but Amber leaves you with a strong hope that if you hold on tight and never give up, the end result is worth it.

Beatless review!

Hey, hi, hello! My name is Nat and I'm from Australia. I'm a photographer: with a passion for reading and a love of writing.

Beth is one of my best friends and I think it's so amazing that she has created this book review blog. I know she's been really busy with work, so she doesn't get much time to write up as many reviews as I know she would like. I recently read some books by Amber L. Johnson, so I asked Beth if she wanted to post the reviews I wrote for them.

And she did. So, here I am.

Beatless by Amber L Johnson

Picture
Mallory Durham has been left behind and it is making her feel less like an adult and more like an afterthought.

Divorce, sickness, educational aspirations being shattered, and her Aunt Sam moving into her home, have made Mal’s life nearly unrecognizable to her.

When Tucker Scott re-enters her life along with his band, will they offer what she needs to once again find her voice and self confidence or will it strip her of it even more?

Told through the dual voices of Mallory as she navigates her new world, and Aunt Sam’s letters to her niece, Beatless tells the story of two women at very different points in their life, fighting the same battles. Proving that no matter what age a person is, there are always lessons to be learned.

Review

I give it-5/5

Review - Beatless is an amazing story about a young girl named Mallory, who goes through the motions of feeling alone when her friends move away for college, while she's left stuck in her home town having to go to community college. Her Aunt Sam moves in to live with her after her mother has to move away for work, and the story also focuses on letters Sam has written to Mal.

Mal reunites with Tucker, the boy from her childhood that she had a crush on, and rekindling that love with him. This story focuses on Mal building up her confidence and self worth as she goes on a journey of re training her voice after having mono, to perform with Tucker and his band, all while falling in love with him along the way. The void she felt from her friends absence is filled by her new friends; her confidence is at an all time high and she's being swept off her feet by Tucker and slowly, but surely, falling in love with him hard and fast.

Everything is going perfectly for Mal. Until her best friend Lassiter returns to town. Mal tries to stay positive and confident as she informs Lassiter of all she's been up to. But with Lassiter's self absorbed personality and condescending tone, Mal quickly retreats into her old self as Lassiter once again makes her feel small and worthless, all while insulting Tucker. With no filter, Mal says something she'll instantly regret. The rest of the story follows Mal having to deal with the stupid mistake she's made from being pushed back into Lassiter's shadow, and doing everything she can to redeem herself before losing everything she's gained over the last few months.

I connected with this story on so many levels. I've had a few friends like Lassiter who have made me feel worthless and beat down my self worth to a ridiculously low level. I've made mistakes in saying things I didn't mean to people I loved and cared about from being influenced from other people; in not wanting to lose friends or to become a target myself. I lost people in my life who were more important to me than the ones making me feel insecure and hopeless. I wanted to shake Mal at times; I wanted to punch Tucker in the face when he was being a jerk and I wanted to rip out Lassiter's hair for making Mal feel so low about herself and just for being such a horrible person. There are a lot of sweet moments between Tucker and Mal; and also Sam and Mal. This story made me laugh and smile so bright. But it also really broke my heart in some places. I'm not gonna lie, I cried. I'm not going to say why, because I don't want to give any spoilers, but I did. My stomach bottomed out a few times and there was a lump in my throat. My heart twitched and ached as though it had been pierced by the stinger of a bee.

The ending of the story is bittersweet. I'm not going to say if it's a happy or sad ending. Okay. It's a bit of both, I guess. But to find out what happens, you're just going to have to read it yourself. And I strongly suggest you do; and promise you won't regret it.

Life in a rut, love not included by J.D. Hollyfield

Having it all isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

When Sarah Sullivan’s perfect life blows up in front of her, she finds herself crawling back to the one place she never saw herself returning: Home.

At thirty-one, Sarah had it all. Perfect job, perfect boyfriend, perfect life. When all that is taken away from her, she is left heartbroken and angry and desperate enough to let her life swallow her whole…for a while.

Fending off love and the pursuit of happiness completely, Sarah vows to pick up the pieces of her shattered life. She creates a list of goals for herself—starting with a much needed shower—and constructs a plan to dig herself out of her rut. What she doesn’t plan for is meeting the arrogant new employee her parents have hired to work on an addition to their home. Enter Jack Calloway, the handsome, charming, lickable foreman with an insatiable effect on Sarah’s girly parts.

Jack accepts the job, but gets more than he bargained for. Unable to ignore his racing hormones—and calm his temper—over the obnoxious woman who clouds his judgment, Jack pulls her in and steals her heart until she finally surrenders. But is he up for the challenge of picking up the pieces of Sarah’s broken heart? Can he carry her out of her rut?

My review

I give it - 4/5

My review - I really enjoyed this story! As you can tell this story is about heartbreak and trying to get through it and not live in a rut for the rest of your life.

J.D really does capture the emotions of a person who is going through heartbreak which makes this story feel real when reading it. The main character Sarah starts off as depressed but who wouldn't be! But she digs herself out of the rut she built herself and becomes a strong woman.

Jack really helps the story by just being the way he is! I love him lol! He really shows you that a loving man does exist and is willing to help you and be there for you.

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it took me awhile to get into the story but once I did I loved it. It shows that when you thought you have everything and then it's taken away from you that you don't give up at all! Sarah bravely opens her heart to Jack and shows the reader that it's good to move and in the end you will find that perfect someone for you.

If you've ever been in a long term relationship or going through heartbreak this is the story for you! It will show you that instead of staying in a rut, moving on is the best thing to do and just to never give up.

The Conquest review!

The Conquest by John Connolly and Jennifer Ridyard

The start of the epic new Chronicles of the Invaders series from bestselling author John Connolly, and Jennifer Ridyard. For fans of THE 5TH WAVE and I AM NUMBER FOUR.

She is the first of her kind to be born on Earth.

He is one of the Resistance, fighting to rid the world of an alien invasion.

They were never meant to meet.

And when they do, it will change everything . . .

My review

I give it - 5/5

My review - I haven't read many books which have been written by two authors so I thought I would give this a go.

It was superb! John and Jennifer really work well together in writing The Conquest that I now need the next book in the series.

What really intrigued me about this story is about the alien invasion. I love aliens so this was right up my street and they both wrote it in such a fantastic way it made me feel like I was part of the story. I love that even though it's set on Earth they still have the fantasy feel to it and like I've said in another review about how much time it must take a writer to come up with the names, descriptions and just everything I really applaud them on it and John and Jennifer did an amazing job with their characters and character development in the story.

The chapters are about different characters and what's going on with them or what's going to happen and that's what I love in a story. That you're not waiting for ages to see what is going on with a character.

Like I said, John and Jennifer worked so well together in writing this story. They both have brilliant writing techniques in which they've brought together in writing this superb story.

If you're a fan of both authors or just looking for a Sci-Fi read this is the story for you!

The Good Girl review!

The Good Girl by Mary Kubica

I've been following her for the past few days. I know where she buys her groceries, where she has her dry cleaning done, where she works. I don't know the colour of her eyes or what they look like when they're scared. But I will.

Mia Dennett can't resist a one-night stand with the enigmatic stranger she meets in a bar.

But going home with him might turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia's life...

An addictively suspenseful and tautly written thriller, The Good Girl is a compulsive debut that reveals how, even in the perfect family, nothing is as it seems...

My review

I give it - 5/5

My review - This is such an amazing story! I started it last night and never put it down! Mary has written one of the best Thriller stories I have read this year!

The story for me really had me from the synopsis. I was wondering what had happened to Mia, what was going on with her family and just had to read to find out what happened and I was disappointed at all!

My favourite thing about this story is how each chapter is from a different POV of a main character and before and after what happened with Mia and I love how when Mary writes what's going on with one character the next chapter will be about another character and what's going on with them at the same time and it really helps the story and brings the plot line together.

I could praise this story all night but I would spoil it for everyone and I want everyone to go and get this book and read it now because it is so perfect and brilliant!

This story was so fantastic and made you think about what was going to happen, which I love and the ending was not what I was expecting at all! I was so shocked! Such a great twist to the story and made it even more brilliant!

If you're going to buy a book soon I really recommend this one. The Good Girl is one of the most best thrillers I have read all year and really kept me guessing and with the shock of the ending it really had me gasping and shouting 'OMG!' all around my room.

Mary has written such an amazing story and I really can't wait to see what she writes next.

New favourite author? I think so.

The Summer We Fell by Amber Garza

Adam Stewart is every girl’s fantasy – captain of the football team, smart, funny, hot. I've had a crush on him for years but he never noticed me. Until now. Dating Adam is a dream come true. He’s always been like a brother to me. But lately things have changed. He’s different, and I'm starting to see him in a new light. Our relationship is evolving in a way I never thought possible. I don't want to lose him, but am I willing to give up Adam for him?

My review

I give it - 5/5

My review - I adore this story! It's such a short sweet story and if anyone is looking for a quick romance read this is the book for you!

Each chapter is quite short, some longer then others and most of them are from different POV's which I love. Not only showing you what's going on with the main character but from another character which I think is great since when reading I always want to know what another character is thinking.

It deals with teenage problems and what they go through everyday which really can relate to someone who has been there especially with having a best friend and then you start having feelings for said best friend and if you have ever been in that situation this story is for you.

Actually I would recommend this story to everyone! Amber has written it so well that from the first chapter I fell in love with the characters, the plot line, just everything.

It is a short sweet romance story that would brighten anyones day. Having POV's from Sloane and Cruz really helped the story progress in becoming a fantastic read!
