City of Brass review

Among the bustling markets of eighteenth century Cairo, the city’s outcasts eke out a living swindling rich Ottoman nobles and foreign invaders alike.
But alongside this new world the old stories linger. Tales of djinn and spirits. Of cities hidden among the swirling sands of the desert, full of enchantment, desire and riches. Where magic pours down every street, hanging in the air like dust.
Many wish their lives could be filled with such wonder, but not Nahri. She knows the trades she uses to get by are just tricks and sleights of hand: there’s nothing magical about them. She only wishes to one day leave Cairo, but as the saying goes…
Be careful what you wish for.

I give it
- 5/5

My review - I was addicted from the first page.

It is written beautifully, addictive and has such an amazing plot that it makes you want more of this amazing book. You'll be sad when you get to the last page. I didn't want this book to end.

Nahri is a young woman who is a thief by day and a healer by night.
(If that doesn't make you want to pick up this book I don't know what will). She's not sure how she came to these powers but, she uses them to get herself by. She doesn't know what to expect when she accidentally summons a Djinn. When he relecutnly saves her from a demon their adventure begins. On the run and having to deal with a lot as they head to City of Brass (Daevabad) where Nahri wants to settle in as a healer. Things are quite what they seem. There is something sinister at bay and it might have something to do with the royal family.

In this book we also follow Ali. The youngest son of the king. He wants to help the Shafit, who are half human half Djinn. But, in doing this he gets himself caught up in something he never expected.

Read as these characters meet and read what happens in this wonderful book.

It was just so wonderful. It has fantasy, THE WORLDBUILDING, romance and so much more wrapped in this novel. I was blown away by this book and I just can't stop thinking about it. I enjoyed it a lot and if you are a fantasy fan I can't recommend this enough. It has such a good story, the world-building is brilliant and you just want to read this slow and take in each setting, the characters, the culture and so much more.

Full of mystery, romance, adventure and more! The characters are all wonderful. Each character was interesting, I wanted to know more about them. I adore this book.
