A castle. A curse. One dangerous holiday ... Kate and her friends are spending the summer at Darkmere Castle in Devon which she thinks will be a perfect opportunity for her to get together with Leo. But instead, she s drawn into the dark story of an nineteenth-century girl who haunts the tunnels and towers of the house ... and whose curse now hangs over them all.
I give it - 5/5
My review - I loved this book! I could not put it down whatsoever! As soon as I woke up this morning I picked it up again and didn't put it down until I finished it.
It was that good.
Darkmere is a story about a bunch of teens who go to Darkmere castle. Leo, who is the popular boy at school, inherited the castle.
Kate was surprised when he asked her to join them but is happy about it as she has a crush on Leo. But not all is what it seems at Darkmere.
We have a POV from Kate in the present day and also Elinor from 1825. Both are very different characters, who are both so unique that I loved reading about both of them.
Darkmere is a dark, twisted story that had me gripped from the very beginning.
Darkmere has a curse on it.
The St Cloud family, who Elinor married into. St Cloud was a horrible person and made Elinors life a misery. I won't go too much into Elinors past as I think this is something you need to read and I don't want to spoil it.
But the curse! Something always happens to the males of the St Cloud family and descendent when they inherit the castle.
So you can tell, something bad will happen.
I really loved this story. I enjoyed Leo's group of mates, Beano, Jackson and Hat-Man Dan where all followers of Leo, but this holiday at the castle really test their friendship and Dans relationship with his girlfriend Lucia.
I love the characters but my god was Lucia horrible near the end, I know it wasn't her fault but still.
The castle made them all crazy and test their limits.
It was such an enjoyable story! Helen has wrote such a fantastic story! She really knows how to write characters that will draw you in and make you want to keep on reading till the very end.
This story isn't out yet but I suggest when it is, you go pick it up!
An absolute, brilliant dark, twisted story from Helen!
