Hard Rules
by
Lisa Renee Jones

Picture

Wall Street meets Sons of Anarchy in Hard Rules, the smouldering, scorching first novel in the explosively sexy Dirty Money series from New York Times bestseller Lisa Renee Jones, author of the Inside Out series, which Kirkus Reviews calls: 'Angst-y, sexy contemporary romance with big emotional and financial stakes set against the backdrop of two dynamic families. Sure to leave readers desperate for the next installment'. How bad do you want it? The only member of the Brandon empire with a moral compass, Shane Brandon is ready to make his family's business legitimate. His ruthless brother Derek wants to keep Brandon Enterprises cemented in lies, deceit and corruption. But the harder Shane fights to pull the company back into the light, the darker he has to become. Then he meets Emily Stevens, a woman who not only stirs a voracious sexual need in him, but becomes the only thing anchoring him between good and evil. Emily is consumed by an all-encompassing passion for Shane. She trusts him. He trusts her, but therein lies the danger. Because Emily has a secret - the very thing that brought her to him in the first place - and that secret could destroy them both.

My review

~I was sent a proof from the publishers-all opinions are my own~

I give it - 4/5

My review - Lisa really knows how to write a captivating story and the ending of this book has left me needing the second book badly! So much stuff to still find out and I cannot wait to find it out and see where this story goes.

In this book we follow Emily and Shane. Shane Brandon is a top lawyer, he oozes power and sex appeal and his father owns a company known as the Brandon Empire. Shane has been hurt in his past and has put everything into his job and trying to deal with his brother and father. He meets Emily one night and after their night together he wants her again and doesn't expect to find her at his father's business as his fathers secretary. Shane knows what he wants and he will fight dirty to get it, even if that includes taking down his brother, taking the family business and getting Emily but what is Emily hiding? Did Shane make a good choice pursuing Emily or will that be his falling? Emily is hiding a lot of things and she has stuff to do, too bad falling in love with Shane wasn't part of the plan.

Shane has to deal with his father who has his own secrets but he has fallen ill and it looks like his brother Derek, will get the company. Shane has to start playing dirty and now I need to know what happens in the second book. It was kind of a cliffhanger as some information wasn't brought to light in this first book and it has defiantly left me wanting more. To see what happens with the Empire and what happens with Shane and Emily. If all these lies will be brought forward and will anyone of them come out of this unscathed.

A brilliant book from Lisa. I will defiantly be picking up more of her books as she is a fantastic writer and this book had me gripped from the very beginning. It was full of sex, power, lies, family ties, relationships and even more lies and I loved every second of it.
