Eight years can disappear in an instant... But their connection runs deeper than ever. One look at Katie Watts, and Ethan is fifteen again - the boy who risked everything to save a terrified girl from her twisted kidnapper. Now Katie is grown-up - beautiful, composed and telling her story to the world. Ethan was once her guardian angel - and he wants to be sure that she's still safe. When they reconnect, it's as different people - but Ethan wants Katie every bit as much as she wants him. Yet all he can do is savour every moment they're together until she uncovers who he really is. Because her kidnapper - a convicted serial killer - is also Ethan's father.
~I was sent a copy from the publishers - all opinions are my own~
I give it - 4/5
My review - I am in dire of the next one.
Just a heads up, if you're looking at reading this there are some scenes that people may find unsettling.
This book was so heartbreaking. You really feel for the characters. Both of the main characters went through something no one should have too as children and now they're adults, the pain and past isn't going away.
Katie was kidnapped as a child. What happened to her left her badly shaken up and now it's 8 years later and after an interview where she recalls what happened she is trying to get herself back out there. She's scared, she doesn't trust men but, she wants to push herself and make herself proud.
Ethan was the boy who saved her. His father was the kidnapper. After finding her he takes her to the police and after a few letters never sees her again until, the interview on the TV. He's back to being the 15 year old boy who grew up with a father who wasn't who he thought he was. A father he could never forgive and he feels like he owes that to Katie.
They meet and after awhile there is a connection but, Katie doesn't recognise him. Once she finds out will she run? Or will the connection be too strong? Ethan isn't ready to reveal his past to anyone. He doesn't want to be assosicated with his father but, he cares for Katie and knows he can't lie to her much longer.
Can I just say, this book kind of left on a cliffhanger and I just need to know what happens. I hate the reporter and I know it sounds bad but, I hope something bad happens to her because she is just awful.
Katie and Ethan have a connection and the way he cares for her is lovely. Katie really grows as a character in this book. She doesn't realise how strong she became. She went through such an ordeal that everyone wants to keep her in bubble wrap but, she knows she can do it and she believes in herself.
A great start to a series that I can't wait to finish.
