I give it - 5/5
My review - This has to be one of the best books I have read in a long time.
This book is set in the future where looks matter. The eves have to stay at a certain weight and have to look desirable to be chosen at the end of the 16th year by a Man. In this book we follow Freida and her friends where they are taught to stay beautiful. They get shamed for gaining the littlest of weight and they are all on medication. They basically have to be the perfect girl for the men. Worst of all they are groomed to compete against each other. To judge each other on their looks. I also noticed that all the girls names in this book where lower case when the male names had capital letters. It is basically saying that women are inferior. Even 'His' and 'Hes' where capitalised.
I really felt sorry for Frieda as her best friend Isabel is the favourite at the school and she is always trying to look beautiful and fit in, even if that means judging other girls on their looks. I loved that this story followed Freida instead of Isabel who was the chosen one. Freida goes through a lot in this story as she tries to stay pretty as all eves are meant to do.
This book is very powerful. It's blunt but brilliant and one of the best YA books I have read in a very long time. I really liked how it ended as I think any other ending would have not fitted with the story and it wrapped it up nicely for me.
