The Earth is dying. Darrow is a Red, a miner in the interior of Mars. His mission is to extract enough precious elements to one day tame the surface of the planet and allow humans to live on it. The Reds are humanity's last hope.
Or so it appears, until the day Darrow discovers it's all al lie. That Mars has been habitable - and inhabited - for generations, by a class of people calling themselves the Golds. A class of people who look down on Darrow and his fellows as slave labour, to be exploited and worked to death without a second thought.
Until the day that Darrow, with the help of a mysterious group of rebels, disguises himself as a Gold and infiltrates their command school, intent on taking down his oppressors from the inside. But the command school is a battlefield - and Darrow isn't the only student with an agenda.
Break the chains. Live for more.
I give it - 5/5
My review - People who know me, know I am a big fan of Sci-Fi and when I got recommend this book I couldn't wait to get stuck in!
Red Rising is such a brilliant story! I got lost in the book in the first few pages and my partner had to literally throw a pillow at me to stop me reading as it was getting late.
I was that stuck into it.
I love this story mainly because of the character growth, at the start Darrow is only a teenager and he's made to grow up so fast that he really didn't get a childhood. But throughout the book he becomes more and more a man and it was great to read.
Some of the deaths in this book had me tearing up, I couldn't cope.
I know quite a few people have read Red Rising but for those few who haven't I suggest you go and read it. I love authors who make up entire worlds and fantasy/sci-fi names. It just makes the story feel more creative and that's what I loved about it.
Pierce has written such a spectacular book that I cannot wait to read Golden Son and probably have my heart teared out in that book as well.
I cannot recommend this book enough! Go grab yourself a copy!
