Southern California, 1986. Detective Ben Wade has returned to his hometown in search of a quieter life and to try to save his marriage. Suddenly the community, with its peaceful streets and neighbourly concerns, finds itself at the mercy of a serial killer who slips through windows and screen doors at night, shattering illusions of safety. As Ben and forensic specialist Natasha Betencourt struggle to stay one step ahead of the killer - and deal with painful episodes in the past - Ben's own world is rocked again by violence. He must decide how far he is willing to go, and Natasha how much she is willing to risk, to rescue the town from a psychotic murderer and a long-buried secret.

My review - What a book!
I totally agree with other people about this book being chilling, gripping and something you won't put down until it's finished. You will just want to keep reading and not stop until you find out whats happened and even then, you'll want more.
This book starts out with a person who is set out to kill a woman who, is home alone and cooking dinner. Police detective, Ben is called down to help his friend investigate the murder. Before they know it, they believe they might have a serial killer on their hands. Everyone is on edge and when Ben finds a boys body, they believe he committed suicide, it starts to unravel things he could never imagine. They look into the life he led and what could have possibly have happened to this boy. With trying to find the serial killer, what happened to this boy and trying to figure out things in his own life, he must try and stop things before it gets too late.
Ben is a man who, knows how to deal with his job in a professional way but, some times it slips for him. He is trying to figure out things before more people die and also deal with his family and his past. Coming back to his hometown might not have been the best thing for him as he starts to unreal.
A fantastic crime novel that will keep you gripped. It isn't just a crime novel, it is a story of a man try to battle with his past and trying to help everyone whilst doing it.
