They called us the Mercies, or sometimes the Boneless Mercies. They said we were shadows, ghosts, and if you touched our skin we dissolved into smoke ...
Frey, Ovie, Juniper, and Runa are Boneless Mercies - death-traders, hired to kill quickly, quietly and mercifully. It is a job for women, and women only. Men will not do this sad, dark work.
Frey has no family, no home, no fortune, and yet her blood sings a song of glory. So when she hears of a monster slaughtering men, women, and children in a northern jarldom, she decides this the Mercies' one chance to change their fate.
But glory comes at a price ...

My review

I give it
- 5/5

My review - What a fantastic book. It was gripping, dark, full of amazing characters and I just didn't want it to end. The writing was unique, strange and fantastic. I've never read anything by April before but, I am excited to pick some more of her books up!

This book goes through Vorseland with the Mercies. They are a tight nit group of death-traders. They deal quick, quiet, merciful deaths for trade. They take no pleasure in killing but also know someone has to do it and it is their duty. They are made up of the sea witch, the warrior, the speed and the secret. Each are amazing in their own way. They have their strengths and weaknesses and together, they are unstoppable. Their loyalty was  to the group, to each other. Yes they argued but, they trusted each other with their life. I really enjoyed reading about these girls, their sisterhood and their bond. It was wonderful to read. They are ready to make a name for themselves, for a quest of glory.

This story is filled with adventure, mythology, magic and a cast of wonderful characters. The women in this book are fierce, powerful, brilliant women and it was these characters and their friendship, their wanting for glory that just made this book for me. It was dark, brutal and full of empowerment.

I really enjoyed the dark atmospheric sense of the story and I just couldn't put it down once I started it. April is a fantastic writer and this story was really unique and I just can't wait to re-read it.
