Dan promised he'd look after his siblings, but he hadn't bargained on his scientist parents dying on a jungle research trip. The children decamp to crumbling Daundelyon Hall. Horrible Aunt Grusilla reigns supreme, tending her mysterious graveyard garden. But why are Aunt Grusilla and her servants each missing a finger? What are the hungry 'Cabbages' in the greenhouse? As Dan struggles to solve the mystery he encounters one final question: what's the price of everlasting life?

~I was sent a copy from the publishers-all opinions are my own~

I give it - 4/5

My review - What a wonderful story! Not only is it creepy and makes you never want to visit your great aunt but it is so fun and full of friendships and family relationships that you can't help but love it.

Martha had me laughing a lot throughout this book. She knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to be mean to get it. She was wonderful.

This is defiantly a book you could read your child and enjoy it with them espcially this time of year. It is fun and full of some crazy characters.

Dan gets given some bad news and is sent away with his sister and Caramel, the girl who takes care of them and to his great aunts place but, not all is what it seems. Everyone treats Dan like he is royalty and when he meets some interesting characters he realises that not all is what it seems. Why was he brought there? What does his great aunt want with him? And what are Halloweeds? They are preparing Dan for Halloween for some big event and he needs to figure out what is going to happen to him before it's too late.

Like I said this was a fun, creepy read that everyone should pick up! It is gripping and fast-paced and Veronica has written a wonderful book! If you're a fan of Lemony Snickets you will really enjoy this book! For all age ranges!
