Sixteen-year-old Starr lives in two worlds: the poor neighbourhood where she was born and raised and her posh high school in the suburbs. The uneasy balance between them is shattered when Starr is the only witness to the fatal shooting of her unarmed best friend, Khalil, by a police officer. Now what Starr says could destroy her community. It could also get her killed. Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, this is a powerful and gripping YA novel about one girl's struggle for justice.

My review

~I received a proof copy - all opinions are my own~

I give it - 5/5

My review - This is a powerful book. A very powerful book that gave me goosebumps whilst reading it.

This is a hard book to read, there is no doubting that but, this is a book everyone needs to read and understand what happens and what Black Lives Matter movement is. There are so many people out there that just turn a blind eye to these situations and most of the time it's never on the news and this book shows this.

This book is about a teen girl, Starr, who is driving home with her friend when they get pulled over by the police, for no reason, and before Starr knows it Khalil has been shot, numerous times.

She remembers the policemans number and goes to the station to let them know. But, instead of them believing her they start to ask more questions about Khalil and before she knows it, they have classed him as a thug.

Starr knows what she has to do, to remember not only Khalil but all the others who have been killed because they are of colour. Doing this will put her life in danger but she is a strong girl and she is willing to do what she can to make sure she can make a difference and stop what's going on.

If you're going to read one book this year, make it this book. It will open your eyes and make you want to do something and this is what this book is doing. It's making people say stuff and stand up for what they believe in.

Angie has written a powerful book that will have you gripped from the beginning. This is a book that matters and I can't wait to pass my copy on so everyone can give it a read.
