It looked like love.
It felt like love.
But this isn't a love story.
Amelie fell hard for Reese. And she thought he loved her too. But she's starting to realise that real love isn't supposed to hurt like this.
So now she's retracing their story, revisiting all the places he made her cry. Because if she works out what went wrong, perhaps she can finally learn how to get over him.
WATERSTONES SPECIAL EDITION
I give it - 5/5
My review - I adore Holly Bourne. She is an instant buy for me and this book is one that I've been highly anticipating and I was not disappointed. This has to be her best book to date. It is wonderful and heartbreaking and grips you in at the beginning as you follow Amelie's story. It is beautiful and tugs at your heartstrings and makes you just want to give the characters a big hug.
This isn't a love story. A story more of coming to terms with things and letting go. Realising things weren't so perfect in the first place.
I love the premise of this story. We go back and forth between the past and presents as Amelie tells the story of how she met Reese and thought it was love but, as she sits in the rain, in the places she's cried she realises some things weren't as they seemed.
This is a hard hitting book. There is content warning for an unhealthy relationships and abuse and I think Holly did a really good and careful job with this as I know these are sensitive topics but she did them brilliantly. It is dark but, as with Amelie, you start to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Holly has a way to capture the reader into the story and follow along this confusing and unnerving story that Amelie is going on.
Beautiful yet heartbreaking. A story that will stick with the readers for a long time. A story that shows how it's easy to miss the warning signs and how hard it is to follow your head not your heart in a situation like this and following Amelie's story had me reaching for the tissues. It was wonderfully written and I just can't recommend it enough.
